Written by Lydia Solis | May 21 2012

Trend 1:

Moderation is the focus this year. Trends that you will most likely see in kitchens are:

  • Appliance maintenance. Instead of purchasing new appliances when they break down, hire someone to repair it.
  • Kitchen storage: New roll out trays and drawer/ cabinet organizers.
  • Upgrade your kitchen: Swap out old cabinets for new ones, new faucets, lighting, etc. Things that will make your kitchen brighter without too much added expense.

Trend 2:

Excess is a thing of the past. Now we’re going to see more timeless and style conscious value in the home.

  • Sleek clean countertops with smooth edges.
  • Paints and stains are becoming more popular that the glazed look.
  • Warmer and darker woods
  • Laminate and granite countertops

Trend 3:

So many technologies are making their way into the kitchen. Such as smart phones, mp3’s, and tablets.

  • Appliances are now being equipped with USB ports so you can plug your electronics in.
  • Smart induction cooktops, so you can remember the temperatures of your pans as you maneuver them around your kitchen.
  • Electronically controlled finger censored kitchen cabinets. Cabinets that with the touch of your finger will slide right open.
  • Use your smart phone and/or tablets to control the settings of your kitchen. (i.e. lights and appliances)
  • LED for all lights. Recessed lights, under cabinet lighting, accent lighting, etc.
