Dry Rot Repair

Here’s a news flash! For those of you that are not aware, coastal cities have a ton of dry rot. This is due to the damp evenings and moist mornings. Dry rot is the decay of wood caused by fungi. This usually occurs in places with high moisture. In any event, exposure to the moisture element creates a condition that is conducive to the decomposition of organic matter; your fascia and siding. You can also place blame the cheap builders from the 1970’s for using pine as a major lumber species in fascia and siding.

Regardless if you are in Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach or Torrance, redwood and cedar are the best bet for longer lasting wood trim. 

Springtime is the best time to take a look at the eaves around the house:

• Poke at them with a broom handle or ski pole.
• Look for soft spots.

If you locate a damaged area call a professional to remove it ASAP so that the dry rot does not spread.

If it goes unchecked, dry rot damage can cause a tremendously expensive amount of damage to your home.
