Interior Paint

Evergreen Fog

A fresh coat of paint is one of the easiest ways to bring new life to any room. Luckily our friends over at Sherwin-Williams have made it easy to pick colors that are currently trending for 2022 in their COLORMix Paint Forecast.

Green is in. Sherwin-Williams is betting big on softer greens, pastels, and greys. Their 2022 Color of the Year is Evergreen Fog (SW9130) a greyish green tone that makes it perfect for rooms with lots of natural light.

Accessible Beige

acccessible beige

If green isn't your fancy, you can also choose from warm neutrals like Accessible Beige (SW7036), an inoffensive neutral that is stylish enough for both homes and rental properties. The true definition of a neutral color, Accessible Beige looks great in mid-century modern homes.

If you are considering painting your home, the most popular paint color for 2022 is Evergreen Fog (SW9130) and Accessible Beige (SW7036) from Sherwin-Williams.

Kitchen Trends

White 'Marble-Look' Countertops

quartz

Everybody loves the look of white marble but can require frequent maintenance that some aren't expecting. Luckily Quartz countertops feature all the elegant looks of natural marble, without any maintenance., making them perfect for busy families.

Quartz countertops are man-made, which means they come in a wide variety of colors & patterns to fit any design style. Available in flecked or veined styles, they are typically found in white and gray variations. Although it's a high-end product, they have a barrier against moisture and microbes that makes them a perfect prep surface for any kitchen.

Slab Backsplash

slab backsplash

A slab backsplash can elevate the look of your kitchen, giving it a more custom & opulent look. A slab backsplash is made from a continuous piece of countertop material (marble, quartz, or quartzite). If "book matched" correctly, it creates a distinct look. But be prepared to pay a premium if you use natural stone, as fabrication costs can add up quickly.

Textured & 3D Tile

3d tile

If a slab backsplash is out of your price range, you can still get a bold look using tile. Tile manufacturers have developed new techniques to make textured & three-dimensional (3D) tile possible. Textured & 3D tile can be used for the backsplash but is better suited for accent walls. Textured tile is fairly new, but expect to see more of this tile in 2022.

Built-In Appliances

panel ready

A kitchen remodel is the perfect excuse for new appliances, in fact, 90% of the kitchen projects we've worked on get new appliances. The most popular style of refrigerator we see is the built-in, but built-in fridges from Viking and Sub-Zero start around $12,000. Luckily manufacturers like KitchenAid, Dacor, and GE Monogram are introducing 'panel ready' fridges for thousands less.

Panel Ready fridges are stand-alone fridges that are designed to fit seamlessly within your cabinets. Any cabinet maker can make a panel to match your cabinets (shaker, flat, farmhouse) to give you a built-in look for significantly less. We expect to see more brands introduce panel-ready fridges to their lineup.

Thermofoil Cabinets

cleaf

Shaker cabinets will always be a timeless look - but in 2022 expect to see more thermofoil cabinets. Thermofoil cabinets are cabinetry made by fusing vinyl and then pressurizing it onto a wood core. This process is mostly reserved for doors, but a veneer can also be applied to cabinet panels.

Thermofoil cabinet doors are versatile and come in many colors, styles, and textures. We've used thermofoil cabinets from Cleaf S.p.A (an Italian company) on a handful of projects, and the owners absolutely loved them. This type of cabinet is best suited for sleek and modern designs. Cleaf thermofoil cabinets are gaining popularity so you should seriously consider them if you want to remodel your kitchen in 2022.

Top Flooring Trends

Wood Look Tile

wood tile

Wood-look tiles are not new, they've been around since the mid 2000's but they were low quality and looked poorly. The wood-look tiles available now are so much better, higher quality, and some even have wood texture. If you have always wanted wood floors in the kitchen or bathroom, wood-look tile is for you. You can certainly install hardwood in a kitchen or bathroom but is susceptible to damage from water & moisture; you won't have that problem with wood look tile floors.

These tiles come in a variety of colors, shades, textures, and widths. You will have no trouble finding a wood-look tile in 2022 that fits your design aesthetic.

SPC Flooring

spc

SPC floors, or Stone Polymer Composite floors, are Vinyl floor's distant cousin but are nothing like your grandma's linoleum floors. SPC floors have been around since the mid-90s and are now the most popular flooring type we install. In the last 5 years, we have installed SPC floors, mostly from Urbanfloor, in over 85% of our projects. We love SPC floors because they are easy to install, affordable, durable, and come in a wide variety of shades and widths.

If you have seen any episodes of our Construction Show on Youtube, you already know that we absolutely love SPC floors. SPC floors aren't just for modest budget projects, we have installed this type of floor in high-end homes in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA & Newport Beach, CA. We don't want to sound repetitive but if you are in need of new floors, you should seriously consider SPC floors from Urbanfloor.
